As an alumni of the Emily Carr College of Art & Design (now a 'University') in Vancouver, BC. My art career began in the early 90's - the bulk of it being related to 2D animation for TV.
After graduating from art school I worked in the animation department as an in-betweener, animator, layout artist and even in the camera room shooting animation on 35mm motion picture film.
...I got my first shot at storyboarding on Nilus the Sandman for Delaney's, then later Studio B, and onto other studios. I have always appreciated how, as a boarder, I am the first one to pre-visualize the complete story from start to finish! It is a thrill how, almost magically, the words in the script are given movement and gesture that instantly communicates.
Storyboarding can be very challenging and requires great discipline and concentration; but I find it highly rewarding as every project is an opportunity to grow as an artist.
...At Delaney & Friends Productions and Bardel Animation I honed my skills as a classical animator and layout artist. I built on my solid work ethic and high standards and it paid off. First at Bardel, then Studio B Productions I began work as an exposure-sheet "x-sheet" director and storyboard "slug-timer" on various TV series like The Savage Dragon, Flash Gordon and What About Mimi? I was in demand - so much so that I felt a bit pigeon-holed for a while. I eventually moved onto more supervisory work such as Animation Director, Overseas Animation Supervisor, and more.
...In 1998 Studio B hired me as Overseas Supervisor on Ned's Newt. DECODE also sent me overseas to supervise two seasons of Freaky Stories and The UNDERGRADS season 1.
In 2005 I started Animation Brewery Productions with Glen Schachowskoj which we continue to operate. I especially enjoy the development side of things.
My roles vary depending on the project - including producer or director, designer, script writer or storyboarder.
I have an on-going side venture working with a motion picture film collection of cartoons and associated production equipment.
